Privacy notice
Replace [Your legal name] before publishing. Update this page if you add analytics or ads. Last updated 6 October 2026.
Is the Website Up is operated by [Your legal name]. This notice describes what leaves your browser when you check an address on isthewebsiteup.com.
What we do not keep
There is no account and no database of searches. The result is shown on the page and then forgotten by this site. We do not write the addresses you check into local storage.
DNS lookups
When you press Check, your browser sends the hostname to Google's DNS-over-HTTPS service at dns.google. If that call fails, it tries Cloudflare's resolver at cloudflare-dns.com. Those companies see the hostname, your IP address, and the usual connection data, under their own privacy policies. The query asks for A and AAAA records only.
The reachability request
Your browser then requests the URL you typed. That destination sees your IP address, as it would if you opened the site yourself. The request is sent with no referrer, so the destination is not told that you came from this status page. We never receive the destination's response body. Browser rules prevent that, and the tool does not try to work around them.
Addresses you should not paste
A URL can contain secrets in the path or query string. If you paste one, your browser will send that full URL to the destination. Remove tokens before you check.
If you write to us, we receive the message your email app sends and use it to reply. We do not add you to a marketing list.
Hosting logs
The host of this website will see ordinary request logs, including your IP address and the page you opened, such as the home page or the FAQ. Those logs are about visits to this site, not a copy of the status results.
Advertising
Ads may be added later through Google AdSense or a similar network. Google may then use cookies to serve and measure ads. You can manage ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com. Google describes its use of data at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. In the UK, the EEA, and similar regions, switch on a certified consent message before personalised advertising cookies run. This template does not include that message.
Retention and your rights
We do not hold status checks to delete. Emails are kept only as long as the conversation needs. Depending on where you live, you can ask for access, correction, or deletion of personal information we actually hold, and you can complain to a regulator. Contact hello@isthewebsiteup.com.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If checks ever move to a server of ours, this notice will change first. The date above is the current version.
